Ethics

My entire professional career I have held very high standards for myself and anyone involved with projects that I am heading. I have always taught dance with very strong morals and professionalism, so translating that to my new infused education career will be natural. I also think that as a mother I expect certain ethical codes to be upheld for my child, by myself and others in her life. The following codes are important to me because they reflect how I feel on many levels: as a mother and educator.

DEC (Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children), 2009

1. We shall build relationships with individual children and families while individualizing the curricula and learning environments to facilitate young children's development and learning.

2. We shall support professionals new to the field by mentoring them in the practice of evidence and ethically based services.

NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), 2005

3. To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.

  1. Darcie,

I agree that we need to build relationships with individual children. One thing that I learned throughout my experience is not to shape opinions about children before you give them a chance. Some teachers have a hard time with children because their personalities clash but the child is actually a really good kid.

    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Darcie,

I thank you for your wonderful insights as an educator, a business owner and a mom. Your blog postings have added to my professional knowledge to become a good leader in the early childhood field and as a new mom. I thank you for enlightening my first term with Walden and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and in your Master's program.

    Warmest regards,
    Liz
